Vatican Art Restoration Theme Exhibition

Vatican Museums antiquities experts restoring a Renaissance painting, Vatican City.On December 11, the Vatican Museums hosted [Beyond the Surface: The Restorer's Gaze,] a special exhibition. The event celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Vatican's Painting and Wood Restoration Workshop and featured the restoration of 36 paintings, frescoes and furniture artifacts. Founded in 1923, the Vatican Museums' Restoration Workshop is one of the oldest art restoration organizations in the world, and is responsible for the maintenance and conservation of some 5,300 paintings and frescoes in the Holy See's collection.
