Visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Antarctica

On November 23, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres joined the President of Chile on a three-day visit to Antarctica's scientific stations and glacier regions for a briefing on climate warming. The UN Secretary-General warns that fossil fuel pollution is exacerbating the melting of Antarctica's glaciers and calls on countries at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai on November 30 to reach a new agreement on climate emissions reductions to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The UN Secretary-General also calls on countries in Antarctica to reduce their emissions by 1.5°C.
