A train collision occurred in Indonesia's West Java province.At 6:03 a.m. on January 5, a Bandung commuter train collided head-on with an intercity express train traveling from Surabaya to Bandung near Chikalen truck station, destroying the power head of the two trains and derailing and overturning several carriages. The accident resulted in the deaths of four train crew members, 42 injuries, and the safe evacuation of all 478 passengers; the cause of the accident is under investigation. The Indonesian rail network is operated by the State and the total length of the national rail network exceeds 7,000 kilometers.
