Argentina's far-right contender wins election

Javier Milei, presidential candidate of Argentina's far-right party, Freedom Forward, celebrates his victory, Buenos Aires. On November 19, Javier Milei, Argentina's far-right presidential candidate, was elected as the 55th president of Argentina, defeating the center-left candidate with 55.95 percent of the vote. Milei, 53, a former TV commentator, advocated the use of factory shock therapy] in economic policy, the implementation of full dollarization, the abolition of the Central Bank of Argentina, and the reduction of government departments and expenditures, and in foreign policy, he wanted to strengthen relations with the United States, and to stop cooperating with the former two major trading partners, China and Brazil. Argentina's new president will be officially sworn in on Dec. 10 for a four-year term.
